2013 MLB Season Standings Prediction(s)

with one comment

Off the top of my head, just reflecting on the information I’ve digested, here are my intuitions regarding how the regular season standings will look at the end of the season.

Clicking on the team name will take you to an analysis of team depth charts.

  1. Tampa Bay
  2. Toronto
  3. Baltimore
  4. New York Yankees
  5. Boston

  1. Detroit
  2. Kansas City
  3. Cleveland
  4. Chicago White Sox
  5. Minnesota–Their pitching is just so…questionable at the MLB level.

  1. Oakland
  2. Los Angeles Angels
  3. Texas
  4. Seattle
  5. Houston

  1. Washington
  2. Atlanta
  3. Philadelphia
  4. New York Mets
  5. Miami--my loathing for MIA owner may be coloring my judgement.

  1. Cincinnati
  2. St. Louis
  3. Milwaukee–Offense should be fine.
  4. Pittsburgh–Rotation (Jonathan Sanchez won a spot?! They will be putting both Sanchez and James McDonald out there every five days? For real?) Offense? Compare their expected lineup to the other clubs in the division; who are they going to consistently outscore? Exactly.
  5. Chicago Cubs–Anthony Rizzo will be good, but this is a project.

  1. Arizona–Pure intuition and possibly misplaced faith in Kevin Towers’ intuition(s).
  2. San Francisco–Vogelsong and LIncecum are question-marks; Zito is Zito; all of a sudden SP depth looks…not quite so solid.
  3. Los Angeles Dodgers–Largest variance in possible outcomes of any club in the division; guaranteed to return smallest ratio of marginal wins to marginal dollars spent.
  4. San Diego
  5. Colorado
