NFL Incompetence

leave a comment »

Slate goes off on the League for allowing the travesty to get worse.

I couldn’t agree more.

Fuck Goodell right in the ear.

UPDATED–This excellent post at Grantland says everything I sputter about in the first paragraph: Goodell is putting the players at risk to satisfy his ego. He’s a corporate lawyer–that is, a mouthpiece for rich pricks–making $20 million a year, and he really is fucking over the consumers of the game whose interests he is supposed to secure. Fuck ’em right in the ear, the ass, and his wallet.

UPDATED 2–As much as I enjoy watching Green Bay lose, Goodell’s decision to puff up his chest and distract the rest of us from the NFL’s coming legal troubles over head injuries has caused a travesty to happen in Seattle. That was a bullshit ending to an ugly game in which the officials couldn’t pull their heads out of their asses and manage the game properly. This is total bullshit. And hopefully Goodell will pay for this for a long fucking time. Goodell has made the NFL a joke, which, given its status, is indeed an accomplishment.

UPDATED 3–There’s this from ESPN’s “NFL Nation” blog. Key sentence:

Anyone with a cursory knowledge of the NFL’s deep and nuanced rule book, not to mention the speed of the professional game, knew that recruiting low-level college officials, Arena League castoffs and Lingerie League part-timers was destined to fail at the highest level of the game.

And then there’s this collection of Tweets.

Goodell should’ve just lubed up his butthole and then dropped the soap in a prison shower rather than carry on with this fucking fiasco. On the other hand,  watching the press fawn over that douchebag has made me sick for a couple of years, and  I am therefore glad that his persona has been shattered, that he has been revealed as the unutterable cocksucker he so obviously is.

My problem with the whole “it takes two to tango” of, uh, reasoning is that…Goodell locked the regular refs out! “Eat my shit or else,” he might have well proclaimed to them. This has been an asymmetrical situation from the get-go and unless there is compelling evidence that the officials have not been negotiating in good faith, it is a total cop-out.
